This new album from New York City based composer, producer, and musician, Ethan James Startzman, is a 5-movement continuous piece that tells the story of a group of scientists who escape a pandemic-ravaged Earth only to find that they have brought their human failings with them.

As well as that they discover that intelligent alien life behaves much the same way that humans would if encountering lifeforms that they don’t understand. Ethan performed the entire piece live, in one take, with no edits or post-production on November 20th, 2020 on a Eurorack modular synthesizer.

Part 1: The Pursuit of Science 0:00
The scientists decide that their intellectual superiority entitles them to secretly develop a space project that will sustain them while they search space for a habitable planet to build a new utopic society founded on reason.

Part 2: The Mystery of Space 5:20
Space is both gloriously beautiful and contains many unexpected discoveries. The scientists discover that they may not be alone in their pursuit of finding another world to settle.

Part 3: Contact! 10:17
The scientists are definitely not alone and must fight for their freedom or become experiments themselves.

Part 4: Ulterior Motives 15:30
The scientists escape, but have they escaped each other’s true intentions?

Part 5: Home 20:15
The scientists have divided into factions and are now fighting amongst themselves. Some favour a return home while others pursue different sorts of revenge and profit. A small group of survivors are able to return to Earth, only to find that it has become the Utopia they were seeking. Many years have passed, and they are alone and obsolete in the new world.
